While Truck 17 and Engine 27 were mitigating the situation on Sheriff Road, Engine 30 was handling a wires down call at Minnesota Ave and F St. SE. At this time Rescue Squad 3, on their way to another collapse call, came across a house fire at 1314 T St. SE and requested the box. Engine 30 cleared the wires down call and was placed 5th due on the call. Heavy snow and poor road conditions caused companies to be delayed as RS3 worked to hold the fire on the floor of origin and evacuate civilians from exposure buildings. Engine 30 arrived on the scene with no other Engines in site, request and granted the responsibilities of 1st due Engine Company. Engine 30 laid a supply line into the block and found a 2 story row home with fire showing from both second floor windows. The crew made an aggressive attack on the fire and knocked it down within minutes of their arrival. Engine 30’s lineman received minor burns to his hands and was transported to MedStar for evaluation.
